Hello

I'm 21 and myself and my boyfriend, 28, are looking at taking out our first mortgage on a small 2-bed property. We are both employed with decent credit history between us, and before tax earning around £35k a year between us. no major outgoings, only car insurance, phone contract etc.

We are viewing a local housing scheme propery in our village on wednesday, my bf is quite good friends with the current owners. They have not yet fully approached an estate agents so aren't quite sure how the process works, as the property is a 60% ownership one. They estimate that we would be looking to mortgage a value of around £90,000 on that 60%.

We are pretty sure that we would be looking to purchase the house as have seen inside neighbouring properties already - if we do like it, what would be the first move to take, in order to start the ball rolling? For instace actually finding out if we could successfully get a mortgage and in who's name etc? Who is best to go and see? Must it be done through an estate agents? They should teach these things in school haha.

Cheers!
