I recently p/x'd my car, and as it had a decent amount of tax left on it, I applied for a refund form the DVLA for the unused months.

The cheque arrived today for £97. However, the DVLA have decided my first name is Anderw, and not Andrew, as I prefer to be called.

Will my bank see sense and allow it, or does the name have to match perfectly?

just banked a cheque this morning. they had miss spelled my name , by putting a d where there should be a b. i have a foreign name so it is quite common for it to be miss spelled. never had a problem banking a cheque like that

should be fine especially as that is obvious.

most cheques go through even if they are signed with a different signature only a few at random are checked.

i'd say its fine especially given who its from but i'd give a 10% chance of being pulled up

Thanks guys, sounds like I should be fine then. As you say, it's an obvious mistake which the bank should be able to see past.

You'll be fine - DVLA did the same to me, no problem banking it at all.
They put Anderw instead of Alex?
