Well, one of my new year resolutions was to ensure that my money 'works' harder for me rather than just have it sit in the bank earning .2% interest pa.

I've now got as far as transferring the ISA allowance into a Hargreaves Lansdown stocks and shares where its now sat in a cash account.

Homework for this week is to decide which funds to invest it in. I'm not looking for specific fund recommendations (although welcome) but would be interested in people's suggestions as to what areas it should be split between.

By many accounts the market is overbought. Id sit tight and wait for a pullback. Buy a low cost tracker.
Alternately a Corp Bond ETF like SLXX is yielding almost 6% if you cant wait.

Depends how old you are, what your risk appetite is and what other assets you have.

Honestly worth finding a good IFA and having a look at what they suggest.

If you do think the markets are high I would suggest putting some money in now (maybe 25%) and then have a look again in three months. Or just drip feed in £200 a month or whatever is the right amount for you.

I agree you need independent advice - see an IFA. Remember too that diversification should be based on asset classes, so geographical equity sectors, fixed interest, property, etc., rather then fund diversification.

Pretty sure HL have tools on their platform which guide you through asset allocation and fund selection though.
