Which Credit Card is Best Suited?
Discussion
I reckoned that PH was as good a place to ask this question as any!
Currently living at home and managing to live by the rule of thirds. 1 third for future (mortgage etc), 1 third for playing with (Hookers, Rum, Coke etc) and 1 third in dig money.
Currently have a company car and opted to pay for my own fuel and claim back what I am owed by the company. They also offer a fuel card but I chose not to take this.
I reckoned that now was as good a time as any to take a credit card and use it to pay for the fuel each month. The balance will be paid every month so the APR is not as much of a worry.
Ideally I am looking for a card that is most rewarding. Many recommend Tesco as the reward points at other high street stores are worth up to 4 times more.
Really I am looking for a card that will give me something back for using it.
Average spend monthly on the card will be £400 - £600
Any ideas?

Amex seems best for Cashback at the moment.
I looked into it, but I prefer 'rewards' type cards instead - the earnings seem much better. I currently use a Hilton card, and around a year of spending has got me a night in a mid-level Hotel - whereas equivalent cashback would probably be £30/40ish I guess.
Tempted by the Tesco one though.

I have a Tesco CC. The rewards were 4x but are now only 3x.
If you do your weekly food shop at Tesco you should get one.
If my maths is correct you need to spend £4000 outside of Tesco to get £30 in rewards.
(£1 for every £4 spent outside Tesco, £4000 = 1000 points = £10 to spend in store or £30 rewards)
I'm spending less and less in Tesco so am thinking of switching, not sure where to though!

Amex or Egg Money. Or both. I looked into it, but I prefer 'rewards' type cards instead - the earnings seem much better. I currently use a Hilton card, and around a year of spending has got me a night in a mid-level Hotel - whereas equivalent cashback would probably be £30/40ish I guess.

Upto 1.5% cashback for the first. 1% cashback for the 2nd. Rates might be slightly different now. I have both as Amex is not universally accepted.
I am also looking for a new card , similar circumstances. I already have egg but about a month ago they decided to block it for online purchases. Whenever I call them they tell me its not blocked and it will work. But when I try to buy anything - card declined. No reason for it, 25k credit limit and only xmas shopping on it right now so <1k.
I need to be able to buy online so have no choice but to get a new card. Tesco and Amex look good, any other options ? I also have a virgin credit card account but have given up with them as they seem to be unable to actually send me a credit card. 3 times they have apparently sent me a card but its never arrived.

But if the OP has the opportunity to buy his fuel at Tesco, he'll be getting a point for every pound, so £48-60 of vouchers or £144-180 of rewards. If you do your weekly food shop at Tesco you should get one.
