Just wondered if anyone has had experience of large personal loans, I'm looking to finance a dream car and am wondering the best way to go about it. I am in the forces so relatively speaking I have what I deem more than comfortable disposable income to more than cover what I'm looking at. Obviously if I bought from a garage it would be easier to finance a car but am looking at the private market. Not looking for people to say save up and buy it yourself etc, just feel that I would prefer to own the car now when I'm young and have no responsibilties than later on in life.
I've done the normal money comparison websites but wondered if there are some better options around?
Many thanks for the help.

I've not done it, but financing through the garage/showroom if it's a new car? Lease purchase/contract hire sort of thing.

It's not a new car so can't go down that avenue.

If the car is from a dealer, some brokers will probably be able to get you finance. Doesn't have to be brand new but not too old.

Presuming you have ok history etc.

If it's a classic I'm pretty sure some finance companies do specialist finance for stuff like that.

Pretty certain you can get finance on a private sale through a broker.

Yes, you can, but only with certain providers, but age and value of the car are important.

The post office will lend you up to £25k on a personal loans for about 9%. If you really need the extra £5k, how about one of those credit card deal with a 9 months 0% interest free period.

IIRC the most you can borrow (unsecured) is £25k.

Unless your profile is squeaky clean you'll struggle to borrow more than £15k unsecured right now.

Depends what kind of car you're looking at right enough...

The key to this is whether we are talking secured or unsecured finance. Anything unsecured is going to naturally be very difficult to secure, in the current climate.

£30k secured finance on a car under 4/5 years old, and worth £40k+ shouldn't be too hard to source, assuming a decent credit score and affordability.
