Were getting a new bathroom and kitchen fitted over the next two weeks and am also considering getting the flatroof redone on one of our let houses.
All could easily be put off for a few years but due to vat rise plus relatively cheap quality builders is now the golden age to get this type of work done.

Note will also be getting the wife a car too old one last legs possibly so may as well take advantage of the vat at lower level.

Anyone else taking advantage of the cheaper than normal building labour costs and the pre vat rise cheaper amounts?

Eric - thanks cannot wait it's going to be really nice once done. Note I will not be taking any pics to share though.

Are you sure that it isn't already too late? My hunch is that most retailers will start putting their prices up NOW (if they haven't done so already)and then trumpeting the fact that they will not be passing the VAT rate rise to their customers when the January sales start.

Certainly not what I have been lucky enough to source.
Maybe its luck Id say its more of what is currently available in the market for anyone.

Grab the chance while you can. Holding off on costly items is an error IMHO - get them now (given its affordable) and save instantly.

How do you know?

Some items will go up after 4 January but I expect that for many items, esopecially big ticket items, the prices will not go up by much - if at all. Lower priced items such as food and fuel will definitely go up.

just wondering why you think suppliers will accept a 2.5% margin cut? Note I'm buying at trade prices.

Given on big ticket items they are charging more often than not 2% credit card fee for them to absorb higher vat cost?

On what your assuming you'd expect there to be flat inflation on the big ticket items yet full 2.5% on lesser items
