I need to withdraw about £800 from my account to pay for a car, how do i go about this?

I'm not sure what kind of documents etc i need to take to prove my identity.. or do i just need my card?

Meant to ask my old man this morning but completely forgot!

Photo ID would help but when I've done the same with similar amounts they don't seem bothered about anything bar the card and pin.

If you go to the counter in the bank for that amount all you should need is your chip and pin card.

Yep, just card will do, 800 is small fry really

I would take a few bits (Drivers licence, recent statement) just incase to save a trip home.

ATM? Depending on your limit you could get £250/£500 per day.

Or go to bank with photo ID - driving license or passport

I find putting your hand in your jacket pocket then pointing at the cashier with 2 fingers and shouting give me all the money tends to work.

thats how I do it at HSBC, they dont let me use my card for that amount ?

A normal current account.

I found a Paying in book from my old "livecash" account i had when i was 12-18 but of course that will not do..

I have come to the conclusion i wont be able to take the money out that way, so going back today, surely there will be a failsafe form i can fill

So, you're an adult and the bank won't let you withdraw your own money without a special slip? Never heard of that one on a normal current account. You need to be changing either the account you have or the bank you're with.

WTF, HSBC have some silly rules, at barclays you just turn up and demand monies with menaces.
If it's over a couple of grand they ask you to order but £800 is chump change

Go down with a cheque book and write out a cheque for "Cash" as said above.

It's not tricky.

If you don't have a cheque book, ask them to send you one. This you can do over the telephone or interweb.

They wont take your card cause you could just be a cretin that has stolen it.. With a cheque or withdrawal slip you have to sign it and they can compare that signature to their records.

And did you say you can only withdraw £100 at a day from the ATM? How old are you?

Ask them to give you a proper account.

I took £5000 out from my normal current account over the counter at HSBC when I bought my 182. My main account is with Halifax so the account was rarely used. They didn't even ask any special questions! It was a major city centre branch, but still.

I frequently withdraw fairly substantial sums using my debit card at the counter. Ask for the amount pop your card in, enter your pin and take the money.

I don't think I've been to a branch that has a chip and pin machine at the counter, so they wouldn't be able to verify it.

Then you sign a slip of paper and they verify your signature with the one on the back of the card and the one they have on record, just as they did before chip and pin.
