Not sure if this is the right place, but here goes anyway.
I own my place - no mortgage or any other charge against it currently. Previously we used it as security for a small mortgage, which is paid off and long gone.
I'm looking into the possibilty of a One Account and as it's secured, they will need the deeds to the place. Herein lies the problem - just been to the solicitor to collect them and they only have the pre-root deeds, not the current title deed. The solicitor suggests the building society must still have the title deed, but the building society claim they don't have it either and wouldn't do unless we had left the mortgage 'open'. So - any tips for finding out who does have them and if no-one, how do I go about gettng a replacement?
Cheers.

This is a real pain in the backside as i had a similar issue with a probate in which the deeds were lost.
first i would find your local Deed archive office just search google and you maybe able to get a copy from their ,not sure in your case or not as mine was to do with transfer of deeds but your solicitor will then need to write the land registry. Its not expensive its just apian to sort out but try at the archive place first
