£30k for investment
Discussion
As title, lucky enough to now have 30 grand to invest and I need some (sensible-ish) ideas.
Will consider sharedealing/trading to property to a very small (eg Ebay) business.
I will have evenings and weekends free.
I like the idea of a buy to let holiday home, somewhere with a growing property market would be nice

re trading, just chuck the money away now, to be honest. Will consider sharedealing/trading to property to a very small (eg Ebay) business.

Re holiday homes: holiday chalets (fancy static caravans) might be an idea, but I suspect that the recent increase in Staycations in the UK may have made these over valued.
To be brutal, if you have a mortgage then I would just put it there until the time comes that you have the perfect business concept.
It is always better to start with the business idea and then get the money than get the money then try and find an idea.

Property is a safe bet obviously, and the benefit of a holiday home is that you can use it if you have a free slot! As DonkeyApple mentions, if you have any borrowing, simply reduce it..that would be my advice also.
Boring maybe, sensible definitely.

I have a friend who consistently makes good money spread betting (whole discussion in itself!) doing this.
Would start small and extremely cautiously, with advice from said friend.

I'm pretty sure VAT is charged on Gold and Silver sales in the UK so yes, VAT will go up in line with price rises and, of course, when the VAT rate increases in January 2011.
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/vgoldmanual/VGOLD13...Investment gold is exempt, I thought.

Well, you'd need a bit more money for this, but what about Property Investment Franchise?
Check out Platinum Property Partners, they have a property franchise that you invest in--pretty much, you invest some money, they use it to purchase by to let houses. It's a passive investment, so they do the searching, securing, refurbishing and managing. You just invest money, approve the properties that they are thinking of adding to your portfolio and sit back while your pockets fill.
good luck!
