Just had a phone call from the recovery departement advising us that one of our companies hasnt submitted a return for 09/10 and the usual fines blah interest blah..

now as it happens I distinctly rember what happened. Only one of the directors is paid and last year was only a couple of K well below any payment thresholds so it was anil return.

you cant do a nil return through the online system. so i phoned them and was told to e-mail through a link on the site. which I did..

First person tells me to phone helpline, so i do after 30 mins or so they say no return showing call tax office, your lucky they still take calls !!! WTF

so call tax office go through story again. oh yes i can see a note on your account that a null return was recieved through that system. someone is supposed to have processed that but they havent banghead

Im happy to proccess that for you now, and mark it as recieved before the due date which it was... so result..

It also turns out that due to incentives etc they actually owe us around 300 quid..

mucking fuppets, you cant make this st up.

I presume you are talking about the Employer's End of Year Return (P35 etc).

You can absolutely submit "Nil" returns on-line. I have done that for a number of clients.
