Something i've often wondered. Is it cheaper to bypass the Post Office, banks and the plethora of exchange companies at the airports and simply get your foreign dosh from the cash machines in your target country?

It depends who you bank with a lot of the time, some banks charge for each transaction and have terrible exchange rates etc - one to look into with your specific account I would imagine.

If using for example a Nationwide card in Europe then yes, it is ALOT cheaper to use the cash machine, no fees and a much better rate in my experience.

I have a lloyds premier account and travel abroad most days on business, always use cash machines abroad and usually its a better rate/charge than I can get anywhere else over the counter on my travels
