I've just finished listening to Robbie Burn's Naked Trader audiobook - aside from the narrators grating voice it was a reasonably good listen. Has anyone on here attended one of his seminar's before and if so was it useful/valuable?

I have some cash in the bank which I would like to invest but only once I am comfortable I've educated myself to at least understand the basics and have my own simple methodology for investing.

Are there other learning/resource materials people can recommend for a newbie?

Just get/borrow his book. That he makes money from seminars has to make you wonder... and if you ask on any trading forum, bar his own, they'll encourage you with varying degrees of rudeness to avoid seminars/coaches/mentors. There are a few good ones but most make their millions selling dreams to the gullible.

If he was that good why would he bother charging people to attend seminars rather than just trading on his own account?

have never been to one, but read the books, which are good common sense guides for novices

the way I understand it, is that he makes his living from trading, selling books about it and doing seminars on it, explaining to the man in the street how to invest...so the seminars are just another small revenue stream for him

hes not daft, done well for himself, no idea how much his seminars bring in, but personally I cant imagine the value add compared to picking up his book for a fiver

The problem with these kind of people... and not necessarily Robbie Burns himself:
I've made a mint on the stockmarket and want to "give back" and show you how to do it as I am a kind and benevolent person. Please send me £2500.

hehe

There are also numerous tricks for "proving" you're successful at trading/investing.

One important thing I've learnt from trading is to trust nobody. You have no idea how good or bad someone really is. The only true way to tell is to develop your skills which comes from experience and you can then get a sense of whether someone is bullstting or telling the truth. Snag is, by then, you won't need their help.

I went to one of his seminars about 18 months ago, held at a Heathrow hotel, can't remember the name. What I noticed was that where he publicises the event on his website, one gets the impression that numbers would perhaps be less than 25-30. I think there would have been nearer to 100 attending the one I was at.

Guage from that what sort income it is to him. The book is definitely worth reading several times to pick up some valuable tips

Gents, some interesting and valuable feedback, I've read the book (listened to it twice) and it is useful for a novice like me. I guess I was trying to ascertain his credentials and whether Mr Burns followed the "I'm a property guru" in BMV come to my seminars and join my mentoring group for£xxk a year that we've seen up until about 2008! Interesting to note that there were 100 at his seminar at £495 a pop that's not bad business even if he's only doing a handful of seminars a year.

Is there other reading material that people can suggest, I'm quickly forming the view that perhaps I should read a little more before I can make a sensible judgement on whether one of his seminars would be of any material benefit.
