UK redundancy payout whilst on overseas assignment
Discussion
A friend was recently made redundant in Switzerland. She was treated as an expat, paid through UK payroll, for 7 years. Although she was on an UK contract, she has been told she is not entitled to UK redundancy as she has been overseas for longer than 5 years (apparently this is an EU ruling). Therefore she's entitled to the statutory notice period in Switzerland.
I work with a number of Belgians, French, Dutch etc that would be very nervous if they realised they are not entitled to their 1+ year's redundancy pay.
Can someone confirm this.
Thanks
