Credit Card Volcano refund

Has anybody else had a Volcano Disruption refund on credit card?
I queried a refund with the company, yes I know querying a refund, mad, quite mad.
Anyway turned out that this refund was from the card company because "You may have had to use another card which didn't have such a good exchange rate or charges during the volcano ash disruption." End quote.
Didn't like to tell them that their card worked perfectly throughout the whole ash malarkey, didn't have to use any othercard, i had enough folding on me purely by luck and I can't see any issues with X-rate or charges on the transactions that were made.
Is this a record? Financial institution giving money away or what have I missed?
