Hi,

Does anyone know if you can get a mortgage arrangement fee refunded if you don't take up the mortgage?

I had to pull out of the house pruchase as the environmental survey returned that the land the house sat on was contaminated. As this was approx. 6 weeks into the purchase process I had already paid the mortgage arrangement fee - I have since decided to put buying a house on hold (thinking of moving jobs and hence possibly moving away from the area) and was seeing if anyone could give a quick answer to my query - it'd be nice to get the money back!

Thanks for any help.

Not yet, I have just found the paperwork which states booking fees are non-refundable - answers my question! Not the answer I was hoping for...

How was the land contaminated? What was the contaminate?

Environ surveys can make things sound a lot worse than they actually are.

Like you said, I think your just ansered your own question. Highly unlikely to get back, as non-refundable.

Thats why its usually best to add them to the mortgage, as if the same happened, you would not have paid it and would not have been asked for it. You can then just make an overpayment after the mortgage starts, so its not added for the term (assumming conditions allow overpayments).
