There's me thinking today was a good time to sell Desire, and they're up through the 100p barrier

Rockhopper now up ~700% on last week !!!

Come on then is it worth buying some still? I think I bottled early with Desire, my thinking being that they're just feeding off of Rockhopper by being in the same area (geographically)...

Where will Rockhopper go when they start pumping the stuff? yikes

You'll find out in 15 yrs time biggrin

If you went in for the punt on the discovery of oil then don't forget that play is now over. It's a change of investment criteria now.

Plus, it'll take years to negotiate the deal with Argentina. No oil worker is going to accept staying on the Falklands when Buenos Airies is a few miles away and BA is the nearest port with sufficient space to run a deep ocean drilling op out of.

Seeing as this will be reliant on two govt's being part of the negotiations nothing is going to happen quickly. And it will be messy as the British Govt should have signed a deal with Argentina years ago in the event of someone finding real reserves.

Managed to miss des and rkh and i'm (to say the least) gutted. I couldn't get funds quick enough to catch it right. I have managed to get into RRL a while back so I am hoping that will come good.

Just wondering if any other similar oilers are on anybody's watch list?

It'll be interesting to see where RKH goes the rest of this week. They were one of the risers on Friday when all others where in a bit of a freefall. Paid off quite nicely today, both Rockhopper and Desire but I suspect you're right and that play is over.

I'm sure you guys know what your doing, but just be careful on this one.

The way I see it is the oil finding play is over and I figure most of the investors are in for the short term, not doubting that they may be sitting on some serious barrels but its another story all together in extracting it and personally don't think the company is big enough to deal with it. Probably will be taken over by a larger company, which is good for the long term holders.

I don't know how much upside is left but imo its risky to be topping up at these levels.

But more to the point is when the short term traders decided to sell, I'm sure its going to be a large sell off and a quick one too and some people are going to get burned, hopefully not you lot.

Happy trading.

So, in theory if you wanted in in RKH you'd wait until the drop associated with the large and quick sell off then get in with a long term view...

Would be nice if that happens.

Holding Rockhopper, Desire, Borders and Falklands Oil & Gas.

Last week was a good week wink

I'm in it for the long haul. Hoping the whole area is a new oil provence. All part of my pension plan, so i've got 35 years for it to come good.

Just be wary guys, striking oil is great but consider the potential costs of production. Steel prices, vessel rates and the logistics involved in an area like the south atlantic are not helpful.

eek

I got into Desire at 48 and have sold enough to get my investment back. Holding on to the rest and will likely sell if they get a good well.

There is a massive difference between disovering hydrocarbons and producing hydrocarbons...

I really wouldn't make it part of your pension plan!!!! That strikes me as a little bit insane.

It's the same as having a pension plan that is based around buying lottery tickets.

It's fine to have as a bit of icing on the cake but this isn't a play that should be part of anyone's long term stable retirement plan!

This is a hookers, booze and gambling play for a holiday in Vegas.

Totally agree.

It's only part of my pension plan. Got to have some risk.

Agree on the logistics of the NFB too, not easy. I sincerely doubt Desire or RKH will be producers anyway, so sitting tight for someone to come along and buy them.

yes these 4 will be my more interesting observations in an otherwise dull managed/passive portfolio.

Or the directors sign a license over to a producer in exchange for jobs on the board, massive golden handshake and parachutes, once they've finished selling out all the stock converted from options that have diluted all external holdings and emptied the coffers via salary and pension contributions.

Depends on if you need the money, personally feel better off keeping a generous stop loss order activated as has long term potential I like to live dangerously so nothing setup, willing to lose up to 60% of my outlay

Analysts reckon RKH has potential to be at least 600p (google: Richard Rose of Oriel Securities) if the oil find comes along nicely- a updated statement on tests is due in around 7-10 weeks iirc

plus- William Haigh as Foreign Sec will stand up to the Argentines

Did that in 2004 on DES bought in, doubled money, sold at 66p IIRC leaving original stake in.

Have accumulated on rights issues though.

No risk at the moment (on paper)

Slightly different on other holdings, but those holdings are 10x less than what's in DES.
