Doing finance for a small racing team

Actually it's my university Formula Student team. We require someone to keep track of the money for the team. I'd like to do the job as I have a keen interest in the subject, however I've never done this sort of thing before so I don't know precisely what it involves.

Where would I start looking to learn what I need to in order to carry out the task? i.e. what specific subjects should I research? Perhaps there are some introductory books that someone can reccomend.

I've spent the last few months reading about the stock market and investments and I have a few more months to learn this side of things aswell. Any pointers would be great!
