I'm having to unexpectedly look at buying a house and was wondering how (generally) mortgage providers look on bonuses and car/cash allowances these days? Do they usually just lump everything together, or is there a more complex forumula - or (sharp intake of break as studio flat in hackney seems more likely) do they ignore these elements of income?

In terms of single salary multiples - am I looking at 3x, 4x or more? I appreciate affordability comes into it more these days, but I'm after a bit of a fag packet guide.

Thanks.

They look at your last 3 months pay slips - now car allowence will certainly be allowable (not noticed).

Bonus.. generally cannot be included.

Well its totally discretionary and for any lender to use Bonus+car allowence+Basic is taking quite a risk, Basic+car is fine as a base for multiple.

I personally can get a bonus up to 30% of my basic, that said the co I now work for only paid a bonus for 2009 and thats the first time since 2000 so Im told luckily I only joined in 2009 so was lucky from that perspective.

In terms of affordability the vast majority of lenders will take all or part of a discretionary bonus, they will take all of a guaranteed bonus. Same with overtime.
