because im nice if you send me the cash then il sell you the sovereigns. il even look after them for you in my safe and il send you a certificate promising that they really exist
or, if you dont feel like being scammed by me, Baird & co www.goldline.co.uk seem to be pretty reputable. Though iv never dealt in physical gold so I cant recommend them from personal experience

What's the spread on physical gold in small (less than many tens of kilos) amounts? Last time I looked it was so big that you'd need a sizeable increase in value to cover just your dealing costs. Plenty of much cheaper ways to hold physical gold in paper or electronic form, or if you're keen, small gold mining stocks for gearing. However, if you think that WW3 or global economic meltdown (sorry) is about to hit then having the metal in your hand might be the way forward. I was intrigued by the idea of a coin 3 inches across that weighs a kilo...a job for your tailor, and not many people would have change. http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/nuggets1kilo.html
I seem to recall 10kg "coins" as well....but can't find them just now on the site.

The spread on physical gold is less than 3% if you're looking in the right places - even for 1oz pieces. As Sovereigns are fractionals then the spread is usually larger, but this also applies to when you sell - you'll get a larger percentage over spot for sovereigns than you will for krugerands. Other metals have a much larger spread as well as being subject to VAT, which investment gold isn't. Palladium is on a very strong run at the moment, running at two years highs of c. $550/tr oz (but it's very volatile at present). The spread is c.10% but the market is much smaller.
The last thing you want to do is buy off eBay or similar - go to a broker or specialist dealer for the lowest spreads.

Gold is not on my radar at the moment - I've missed the boat on the last bull run...Currently have the same predicament- 'have' to buy around £1k of gold by mid May.
Ebay, Goldline.co.uk and coininvestdirect.co.uk seem to be the ones banded about as good on sources on online forums, but not sure if can be bothered to have a physical coin (would think bank deposit boxes would be my choice but not sure of cost) so looking into BullionVault.com who you buy from and store in their vaults at a relatively low charge.
