Quick ISA Share Query

I have an ISA investor that Im happy with and it trundles along

This year I fancy doing a bit of self selection but cant figure out how it works

Do I "say" bung £5000 or whatever into a halifax self select share isa and select some shares ? is that it ? if so how does it know to keep them in the wrapper ?

I have read and reread the pages but cant figure out the basics - any help appreciated

It keeps them in there until you withdraw/move them to another ISA provider as I understand. I have had bits in ISAs for some year and never have to do anything. In fact money moves each April from other non ISA investmnets into the ISA wrapper automatically through my IFA systems.
