Bank error.....Can i claim anything?
Discussion
I checked my online bank account this morning and found that my rent hadn't been paid. So I called the bank and found out that the standing order had been cancelled (not by me). They said that there was a expiry date on the standing order. I then checked and all of my payee's had been deleted and my standing orders deleted. The bank has reinstated my standing order and paid the rent but when I asked about compensation they said no. Although my standing order is back to how it should be can I claim anything from the bank as the error is a banking error and not mine?

I now have to try and find somewhere to live as my landlord has written to me asking that I leave for non payment of rent. So not financially out of pocket but out of home.
Bullsh t.There will be a clause in your lease which allows you a period of grace if a rent payment is late. The landlord can't simply throw you out for non payment without a LONG process of him writing to you demanding payment of the overdue amount etc.
Added to which you've now paid, and the landlord has accepted the money.
Crock of b0ll0cks.

That tactic might have worked in 1910 but we are now living in 2010 - so the chances of you being evicted are precisely Nil.You have not lost any money so the chances of a legitimate compensation claim are pretty much zero.

It will cost a landlord a ruddy fortune to find a new tenant, plus a void whilst he does it.Any landlord that serves notice for a few days late rent must be totally crazy, unless you've done this to him a lot before (doesn't sound like it), or some other, very odd reason.
Either that, or I have a very large Tutankhamun.

In that case the bank have to put you up in a 5 star hotel.Don't give them chance to wriggle out of it, just check-in and then send them the bill after you've been there for 3 months. It's the law.
