Okay, recently, I've had odd, sometimes ridiculous quotes from insurance companies. Just to clarify ,I'm not complaining as most end up in my favor. Anyway, I thought I'd share for amusement. Baseline quote based on me with my current (well, in between cars at the mo so not strictly) insurance company to compare all these numbers to is:

~£800 per year - Porsche (996) 911 Carrera 4S, fully comp, male, 28yrs old, 6k miles pa, 9 years ncb, no claims in 5 years, clean licence, living in London, factory alarm/immobiliser, voluntary excess approx £500.

These quotes are based on the same info, unless stated
Porsche (996) Turbo - £730, i.e. 100bhp+ more than a C4S!
Porsche (996) GT3 - £730, i.e. track car for the road with 60bhp+ more than a C4S
Porsche (996) GT2 - £750
Ferrari F355 Spider - £755
Ferrari F355 Spider - £710 if NO alarm or immobiliser is fitted!

and finally....

Mitsubishi Colt CZ1 1.1 - c.£1200 (best price!!!!!!), based on 18k miles per year, best quote from various insurers I tried when trying to insure a car not owned by me.

Anyone else got any amusing quotes to share? Sometimes I genuinely think they just make it up!

£16.5k to insure the T350 for a year; this was through a popular price comparison website! I forget the name of the company now.

I know, they really didn't want my business but I found it amusing all the same!

I had a few quotes of around £2/3k for my BMW, I pay £600 fully comp with tesco.

When I was 17 i got a quote for a porsche cayenne on a price comparison site..... rather than refusing to quote me one company came back with a quote of around £50k

18k miles in a 1.1 Colt in London!

That's a pool car, courier, pizza delivery etc. Even if it's not declared as one, the insurance companies will think it is...

Just an update on this, my final quote (which I have gone ahead with from the company) for my impending F355 was <drumroll> £680. Not a bad deal I'd say. Oh, and apparently parking it on the street behind my house is a lower risk than in a secure, monitored underground car park 300yds down the same road. Like I said, barking mad.

£2k to insure a 2000 Boxster S and a 1996 Nissan Primera as a daily run around. 32 11 years NCB, no points, Boxster not used for work and garaged.

Just a small increase from the £700 I paid last year...
