Got home last night to find a Coding Notice for one of my employments with a D0 tax code. Thats 40% for those who don't know tax codes. The letter is dated 13th of January so its taken six weeks for them to send. The post mark was 27th of Feb.

There is no explanation of how they have calculated this. The HMRC helpline wouldn't or couldn't tell me. It certainly wasn't calculated on the basis of the 2008-2009 tax return because I hadn't submitted it on the 13th of January.

They have issued MILLIONS of incorect codes this year due to a computer "upgrade" failing to recognise that previous employments are not longer current. Phone them again and just tell them it is wrong and that you want your proper Coding of 647L please.

(I am assuming you are not a higher rate tax payer and that byou do not have more than one source ofr PAYE income).

Well I was last year but they didn't know that when they sent the letter! I actually have three jobs but the combined income through PAYE is lower than the 40% threshold. I have told them to change the code to BR as the coding notice is not for my primary employment.
