so one of my neighbours was asking me about a tax problem they have. Her other half works in kazakstan, but is now paid direct by them and is paying tax there. They dont seem to be having much joy with hmrc with whether they get to take what they paid there in tax off what is owed here.

So anyone know any income tax specialists for this kind of thing? Preferably north east based?.

Hi there - I am based in the SE but have dealt with expats for over 10 years now. I assume your neighbour does not actually live full time in Kazakhstan but just goes there for work purposes and continues to actually reside in the UK? If so then he remains fully liable to UK tax and also liable to Kazakh tax on his Kazakh work income (I assume he is non resident in Kazakhstan). The tax paid is fully creditable in the UK - if I remember rightly their tax rates are lower than UK tax rates.
