Hi guys,
My other half has managed to get himself into some money trouble. Basically he owes around £750 to different people including me. He has a gun on pay weekly (£50), rent for the caravan as he works away (£40), £200 for jeep and other bits and bobs to people who have helped him out a bit while works pay packet is very low. He's to proud to ask for any help but i know he is struggling so much as he is taking home only £200 week throughout the quiet season. I would really appriciate some suggestios of what he could do as this is affecting our relationship. I understand that i shouldnt bring personal matters to P.h but it's my last resort.
Thanks so much guys.
M.

I have suggested this to him. It still wouldnt be enough to clear the dept though.

It would be a start. And might allow him to see the end of the tunnel.

As our esteemed leaders like to tell us, in times of hardship, tough decisions are required.

When you say £200 for the Jeep, is that £200/week? There's an obvious money-saver there if so. Buy a cheap 4x4 (if that's required for his job) for £1k and get rid of the (presumably) new car.

Always a bad thing owing money but i guess we all owe money in some way or another.
Don't let it affect your relationship because £700 or so is not alot of money to owe somebody & i really wouldn't let it come between you both. All you can do is suggest selling anything that may reduce this & support him like you have been doing. You could however let him sort this out himself as he is the one who bought this on himself & if you & others continue to bail him out, it WILL only get worse & he WILL rely on handouts from everyone else.
Thanks so much Lyndon, i spoke to my dad about this and he told me the exact same thing. Dad and I are gonna sit him down tonight and get him to write down everything he owes - no lies or fibs and hopefully sort someway of paying off everybody. I thought about getting a cheaper gun for however much he has already payed off on the new one e.g. £350 and then get the rest of the money back e.g. £500
That £500 would pay for the jeep, the rent in advance and a few people he owes money to.
Im not entirely sure if it's possible to do this with the gun though as it is licenced in someone elses name.

Are you saying he owns a gun for which doesn't hold the necessary licence?

The gun is in someone else's name at the mo, it is kept in that persons house in that persons locker and my boyfriend is only aloud to shoot in the presence of that person. My mum works for BASC so he and i know exactly what is legal and whats not.

Yes, until he gets some money together it is with someone else! Anything else you want to know that doesnt relate to the topic?!?

Well it does relate doesn't it. Give up the frigging gun, small dent in debt/liabilities achieved. FFS.

[quote=MissMarple]Hi guys,

Not trying to be nasty but it seems he really isnt too proud to ask for help. Is he conveying big sad eyes and pleading poverty whilst living his normal life?...

As Eric says, sell the guns and anything else non essential. Reduce overheads and outgoings to a bare minimum until his income is covering his bills. Then dont buy anything else until there is surplus cash.

If he sells the Jeep, sells the guns etc until he has little outgoings, buys a 200 quid car, sheds its for a few weeks or months then he can go any get the guns again

Unfortunately nowadays people want credit and goods right now as well as their debt gone, right now. Its a long hard road to get out of debt but its got to be done if you want to increase wealth and stop worrying as much in life.

p.s Hang on, he's got shooters, a getaway car and hes got no fixed abode? Go tell a bank you want their money...
