After 10 years of having a shell credit card with a 7K limit they closed the scheme at the end of Jan. The last few years the scheme has been covered by Chitey bank. When it was cancelled I was informed that I was getting a new Chiteybank Plat card as replacement.

Today I get a letter saying that due to their policy on responsible lending they are reducing my limit to £1700.

Tommorow I am calling them to tell them that they can insert the their chitey card up the orifice from which it came.

wkers, the lot of them.

Had something similar happen to us, we have Cahoot bank accounts, it's part of Abbey (Santandar), for god knows how long we had a flexible loan of around £14k that we used now and then, it was quite a handy thing to have. A couple of weeks ago out of the blue we got a letter saying that Cahoot are no longer offering this facility and it is being withdrawn from all customers. We had no warning. Thank god we didn't have work being done on the car or the house that was reliant on money from this loan! This really pissed us off to the extent where we are now in the process of opening another account with another bank and closing down our Cahoot accounts that we have held for quite a few years.

Ive got one of them Cahoot Accounts, but just checked that i can still arrange to widraw money from the loan if needed.. Will keep my eyes peeled for a letter/email from them thorugh.. As it has been useful for work on the car/house in emergencies & at a beeter rate than a plastic card!

We have had nothing but trouble with Cahoot, for example, we were on Holiday in Tobago, at the end of our stay we went to pay at reception. Our card was declined. Eventually I had to phone my mum and get her to pay the bill over the phone. On getting back to the UK we find that Cahoot had stopped our card as it was being used in the Caribbean and they thought it had been stolen. Now this is usually a good thing, but when it happens on a Sunday, and you try to phone Cahoot and get the message 'We are closed, our opening hours are Monday - Friday ... etc etc' you are kind of stuffed! And to make things worse, because a similar thing had happened before, we actually had notified Cahoot that we were going to be in Tobago!

On the flipside, I had my itunes account hijacked a few months ago, £800 was spent on my card, consisting of about 40 transactions. Cahoot didn't stop my card then! But to be fair to them, they did reimburse my money very quickly.

Yep same to me cut limit from £6500 to £1400..... I spend about £2k a month for personal & business use and clear it each month. Phoned them and told them this new limit was about as much good as a wet fish with tits. In broken english I was told this could not be changed so I cancelled they did not seem interested. Oh and their new platinum card arrived 5 days after they 'expired' the old card. What a shower of st

I had mine cut too, and Barclaycard have done the same. So thats a whole £950 wiped off what i can borrow, between the pair of them. To me it hardly seems worth the effort, Barclaycard dropped by a whole £150!

On Moneysavingexpert lots of people are getting the same, its the card issuers messing around and very little to do with "us" the customers.

So the banks get pilloried for irresponsible lending, and then when they cut limits, they get pilloried!

Had the exact same - i have an american car and buy lots of parts from america.. every single time i order my card gets declined. I spoke to their Belgian Fraud team, who eventually put a "go" on the transactions. I've asked them in the past to remove all such security functions - on the phone and in writing.. They tell me they have removed them but still i end up in Florida in a hotel or at a car hire desk with a declined card. I bought my OH a ring the other week - declined. They are declining everything and it's doing my head in.

Vixpy,

Sounds like you never did make (meaningful) contact with Chiteybank ... if you DID then I'd be grateful for any contact details you may have for them.

Why? See this thread here:

I am just in the process of cancelling my Chiteybank card due them stopping the Shell cash back. I have written to them at -

Citicards
PO Box 49920
London
SE5 7ZF

I just stated that I wish to cancel my card and that I have destroyed the card (plus the new platinum card that they sent to me).

I only sent the letter today so will await confirmation that this has all gone through OK.

I thought the Shell card only came out 2/3 years ago??

I have one, with a paltry £1000 credit limit. Most of my other cards are £5k+. I don't use the card, have since moved from the registered address and have lost my Internet banking log in details. I keep meaning to close the account but haven't yet gotten round to it - task one on my list this week!
Nope, Shell by City was 2 years ago, before that they had a Natwest shell card with excellent benefits, I've had that for years,

Had the same thing.

With the added bonus of the new 'Platinum' (OK it's silver but it has fk all benefits) card not working with my PIN. They said it would be the same PIN as my shell card, but it's not, and I'm now on my final attempt so if I try it again it'll probably get taken off me. Might be the easiest way to get rid of it actually.

Yes they have had to re-issue all the cards due to a technical error! - Even mine which I had already cancelled!!!

My friend works for Barclaycard. He said all Credit Card companies now are reducing all limits where possible. So if you have a card that you have not used for a while and have a low or zero balance then expect to receive a letter soon about lowering the limit. Also if you have a card that you regularly pay off the full balance and the credit card company earns no interest, also expect a letter soon along the same lines. Basically the only people who will not experience this are those with outstanding credit near their limit.
