The bank has lost my cheque!
Discussion
Last Wednesday I went to my bank (probably the largest in the country named after a Yorkshire town) to pay a cheque into my account.
It came from a solicitors account and I wanted to use their 'Express clearing' and get it in my a/c for the weekend.
The last cheque I paid in took 5 working days to clear.
I went to the fella dealing with enquiries and explained what I wanted and then we explained it to the kid on the counter.
The kid said it wasn't worth the £12 to get it cleared as it didn't always get cleared any quicker as it was dependant on the post.
I asked him if it went 'Special Delivery' Royal Mail and he confirmed it did.
It should have been in my a/c on Friday and Saturday it was still not there.
Monday I checked again and still nothing.
Tuesday I went in and asked him where my money was and he said that he didn't know as it was dependant on the post.
'I was told it went Special Delivery' and they do not get lost as it is a guaranteed service. 'Oh no we send them out 1st class ordinary mail' He told me.
I took him over to the counter clerk and the kid agreed with me that he had told me that it would go Special Del.
They have refunded the £12 and I have now had to get in touch with the solicitors to get another cheque and they will be charging for that again.
When it arrives I will go back in with the replacement cheque and I will hold my Abbey/Santander and my ******* card and ask him which bank I should pay it into.
It is for a substantial amount that is why I wanted it clearing quickly and then stting myself thinking that some tea-leaf scrote was trying to pay it into an account he could get his hands on it.
This cautionary tale, don't take what they tell you at face value and paying to get a cheque cleared quickly is a waste of money.

Why couldn't the solicitor just do an electronic transfer?
They wanted to charge me £30 so me being tight just said post it to me.I needed to sign for it and they charge for sending the letter out on top of the transfer fee.
