OK, after a bit of advice really... I went on secondment to another country back in May and received some additional pay. I returned to the UK in September and at that point I guess the additional benefits should have ceased. I've been very hectic since and have barely kept an eye on anything, my wage slips and bank statements go to my parents house... I visit occasionally and collect post etc.

Over Xmas I discovered that the benefits have still been paid amounting to some £5k nearly, most of which has been spent. I'm planning to discolse this to our payroll dept but am looking for some info on my rights etc etc. Havign worked in payroll previously I know there are some bizarre connotations wrt overpayments and I want to know the position before I go to my employer

ANy help appreciated!

you will need to negotiate with them a bearable time schedule over which to pay it back.

Don't foeget, you will have been taxed on it - so don't forget to claw that tax overpayment back from HMRC.

Your employer can claw back the 12.8% employer NIC it paid too.

I had a time when a large shanghai bank paid me a certain amount in advance, I queried why my employers had paid that much in advance and they simply said, Opps, and took it out of my salary without notice, the full amount.

Never did find out who asked for it but suspected it was a scam and someone got my details.

Appreciate that, thanks!

The tax issue is taxing to say the least as my allowance is net (ie. i know the net amount, so it was grossed up!) but thats not my problem smile
