At the start of last month I got a new company car, (a hand me down from within the company). The guy who does the accounts and wages has told me that he doesn't have to inform HMRC - I thought that he/I had to but he says not.

I want to let hmrc know and either get my code adjusted up or down to suit, rather than potentially owe a pile of cash next January. He says to leave it, (but he won't be the one liable if there is anything to owe).
In essence, does he as my employers representative have to tell them or is it something I can do / should do.

If I am to inform them will I need a copy of the V5 to get the emmissions details?

He's wrong! They need to submit a form P46(car) - google it! As you say, you need to sort this as you will still owe any tax due.....

Thanks for that info. I have printed it off, filled it out and handed it to him to submit to HMRC.

What type of accounts person is he? He sounds incompetent.

He is lazy, but worse than being lazy he is arrogant and thinks he knows more than he actually does.
