I recently returned a bike that broke shortly after buying it and received a full refund to the credit card that I used to buy it. I paid off the credit card in full prior to receiving the refund and no longer use this credit card so have a credit balance of nearly £200 sitting on it that I can't get access to.

Is there anyway I can get this credit balance back into my bank account (the card was paid off via a transfer from my current account)?

The only way I can think of doing so is to empty the credit card into my paypal account, send the money my brother and then have him fully refund me. I can then drawdown the money into my current account, but this is a hell of a faff and I'm not sure it would work, or whether I would be charged fees.

Have you tried ringing the credit card company? I had a refund as a cheque and I've also had a balance transfer.

I could do with the money to pay my other credit card bill which is due in a week or so, but I don't think that you can transfer the credit balance on one to a debit balance on another without charges?

Haven't tried yet, I just thought they wouldn't allow a transfer off of the card without charging?

I'll give it a go this lunchtime and see if they're happy to transfer it. Fortunately the balance is on the credit card from my main bank, so it may be easier than otherwise.

ETA: Just spoken to them, they can do it, but it takes up to 5 working days to transfer the money. Absolutely mind-boggling that they can justify that, but what can you do? I've already stopped using the card.
