Please help wife got her tax demand yesterday and its double what she was expecting to pay.We went back though accounts from the accountant and it seams that she misread the amount to pay this january. She has another amount to pay in july, would the tax office take the full amount then instead of in january.

Many thanks.

Is your wife self employed?

Surely your wife can pay half of the tax due now - i.e. the expected amount, and then discuss paying the other half over a period of time (+ interest and potentially penalties).

Next question, what is the financial year end of her business? In other years, to what year end date does she prepare her annual accounts?

(This could have a bearing on seeing whether she can reduce what she has to pay on 31 January so bear with me on this).
