Heard a few things about RBS and Halifax cards not working in cash machines or for card payments today. The wife has a Halifax account but we haven't tried to use it at all today.

Anyone else heard of this or had problems today? Start of the end perhaps?!

Power cut in Yorkshire. Data centre is running on their own generators now. Will all be back to normal this afternoon. ATMs are frigged, card transactions should be OK.

Yep but probably not much more than 10 mins back up from that. Generators should have been on-line and taking the load within a couple of mins though. If it's just a mains failure someone will be in trouble.

just tried to gain online access for my Halifax accounts, but no go, but we'll see later with the ATM as down the pub for the rugby. Will cashback in the shops still work if the ATM is still knackered?

It's Halifax & Bank of Scotland, not RBS, which is affected.

At the place I used to work, we had two big diesel genny's which were run up once a month, along with a diesel level check. They were big enough to run the plant for 24 hours without needing refilling with diesel, and would kick in within a minute of loosing any of our 3 mains supplies.

We also had a depot on site, for a large parcel/courier company who managed product distribution for us. As a result they had diesel on site to fill their wagons, and in the case of dire emergency, we had a connection into thier diesel, which would have run the genny's for a further 8 hours. The trucks would just have to go else where for their diesel. Mind you it was only 8 miles to their main manchester Depot.

I still can't get an online transaction to go through on my BoS card (or it maybe that they've had problems applying the funds that I transferred into the accoutn first). Grrr... PITA.

Still cant get online.

Going to have to phone them. A guy has given me a deposit on a car by bank transfer - I've had to take his word for it and i've had to tell five prospective buyers the car is sold - even though i dont know for sure i've got a deposit on it.
