Morning all, well here's the question, I am currently importing a car into the UK and to get it registered I need to get insurance. Most insurance companies won't insure a car without a UK registration number and to get a UK registration number I need insurance = Catch 22

So, can anyone recommend a company that offers temporary insurance issued on the VIN number?

Cheers

Try Adrian Flux they did it for me no problem at all

Just need to give them the Chassis Number and they will issue the docs in that number etc.

Admiral were OK to issue a VIN-only insurance certificate.

However, they would only wait 14 days to get the car registration, otherwise the insurance is canceled. Which should not be a problem, as 14 days is enough time to get the car registered.

Also, if I recall correctly, you are not allowed to drive the car while you don't have the registration (except for going to a booked MOT). But best to confirm with them.

Good luck with the paperwork.

Thanks guys, I'm guessing though that you bought a full year's insurance? I already have that lined up with a great deal and some extras that I needed but they cannot issue the cover on the VIN number, only on the proper UK plate. That's why I just want something temporary to get the registration sorted. I'll give Flux a try

We do have policies that offer cover on a chassis number for up to 30 days. If you want to e-mail me your details I will get someone to call you.

Holy thread resurrection batman.

Competition car insurance did mine for 30 and a bit days on the vin, just added the registration when it was issued, they have restricted criteria for what they will cover on read cars though, but if you fit then they could help.
