Direct Debit Transfer

We have just changed our mortgage and wanted to move all out direct debits to our new current account with the new mortgage company.

We filled in the form authorising the new bank to take over all these direct debits but the old company refused to release them.

Are they allowed to do this even though we requested it? If the old bank dont release them i now have to contact every individual company who we have a DD with and get them to cancel and set up a new on in the new account - what a PITA.

Bank should have to release the info you need under the standard switcher process, but do not have to.
