You know the score......Incoming call....marked as 'private', so you can not find out the phone number.....pick up the phone to see who it is, and yep, its a dumb bint of a voice on a tape loop recording advertising some bollllox credit card debt clearance offer.

The options are press '2' for an information pack or press '9' to be removed from the list and never to be bothered again.

I HAVE PRESSED '9' ON TEN OCCASIONS NOW AND THE FOOOOOKERS STILL CALL BACK !!

We get calls anywhere between 9 in the morning to 10 at night !

Is there a simple way to find out which company is calling and get compensation from them due to having to stop whatever I happen to be doing at that moment in time to take a phone call that is marked as 'private'.
I mean a 'private' call is supposed to be something of importance. It could be a relative that is in need of help etc. etc.

But to be constantly bothered by these retards who think cold calling actually works, is really getting on my nerve.

Is it possible to contact my line rental supplier to get them to give me the incoming call number even though its marked as 'private'?

This isn't one of those scams, is it? Press 9 to actually be re-routed to some absurdly expensive premium line?

Don't think so because the phone line goes dead about 2 seconds after pressing '9'.

I get them all the time too.

They say "press 9, to speak to an advisor, or to be removed from the list".

But if you do get through to one of them, and mention being removed from their call list....they immediately hang up on you! furiousshootragecurseirked

What is it with the mods on here?

Nearly every post I do gets moved!
I think there are way too many sub-sections in the P&P....often enough a thread will cover many subject areas and should not really be singled out into a sub-section for a minor point.

Please can it be moved back into the 'lounge' as this thread is not about 'finance'.

More importantly is it really possible or a scam? I could do with cutting some debt.

Hang up unless there is a real person on the end of the line when you pick up, to which you say "I have registered with the Telephone Preference Authority and unsolicited calls to me are a criminal offence. Please remove me from your list or I will contact the police"

Even if you said that....how would you know they had removed you from their list?

I get fewer calls. Used to be 2 a day, signed up and it went down to 2 a week, started saying that and it went down to 1 a month.

If its a recorded message, I just put it down.

Sounds like it's worth a try then thumbup

The majority of mine are recorded message calls....which I obviously just hang up on. But what drives me mad is actually having to answer the phone to them irked

why not just get an answering phone? Number comes in as "private" leave it to answer phone and if it is someone you know with a private number you can pick up or call back. If it isn't you won't have to worry about it. I don't understand why people answer the phone if they "know" it is going to be someone they don't know and likely (in these days) to be a scam.

Mostly it does.

Some are just so monumentally arrogant, such as "BT customer street" that they think a) it doesn't apply to them, and b) that they should argue when you point it out to them.
