Hey ho, I know it's the age old question, but....

I logged into an old trading account I had years back to find a pleasant surprise; just under £1000 sat there that I didn't know I had biggrin So, assuming I'm willing to take a bit of a risk, not a mad flyer mind you eek, what stock do you think I should buy with a view to making a few quid over the next 6-12 months?

Ta,

Have some 'fun' with it, split it up to buy several different penny stocks in different sectors.

Or go for potentially solider returns with something like RBS, or Tesco/Sainsburys or BAE etc.

Note:
None of the above should be taken as financial advice.
None of the above is a recommendation to buy.

I am not regulated by the FSA, or any other regulatory body.

Kraft Foods - currently undervalued IMHO.

More importantly - currently undervalued in the opinion of Warren Buffett (although he would say that as his is major shareholder).

Hmm - you need to know what you're looking at, there's a lot of hard sell on many of them and can be hard to find the quality amongst the chaff unless you have an 'in'.

I tend to stick to UK listed mining stocks and currently hold European Nickel - really interesting Nickel deposit in Turkey, good management, good technology, shares look cheap as is in the final steps of concluding a Chinese based financing which if it happens 'may' lead to a jump in SP.

Griffin Mining are also interesting - well positioned in zinc, which is likely to rise strongly over the next 18 months, good project (in China) and predicted cashflows, well known team.

No substitute for real research as always, don't just rely on mine, but I have recently put money in the above.

scratchchin we bought these in our club a few weeks ago (6/8), made a hefty profit, and have withdrawn our initial investment + 10% leaving the remainder in there as a hope and pray.

Fingers crossed on those.

We also hold 3 out of that 4 (no FOGL) Desire was my first ever share purchase (around Nov-04 IIRC) the upside potential of those is massive, but you need to be trading them regularly IMO.

Again, fingers crossed on those....am hoping the SP on all three will rise considerably during drilling...assuming the LOI comes to fruition.

Bit of a tricky one for someone just getting back into the market.
Most people trade this daily with most of the volume often coming early.
Not the sort of thing you would put a buy or sell "at market" on.
Use limits.

Having said that, I use leveraged ETFs a lot, and as long as I don't get greedy I do ok (ok is 4-5%)

I left the financials about a month ago and moved onto the real estate ones, 'am currently looking for the next sector to attacksmile
But there's still life in the fins.

If its £1000 then you need to take some risk to make it worthwhile, you may as well use the the cheap leverage that these ETF's provide

I dont daytrade these names thou i know many do. I bot it in July and look at it as a core holding for 2-3 years, the other core holding i have is URE US (DJ real estate x2 lev).

Banks are a very pure play on improving economic conditions and quality commercial real estate was pricing in the end of the world until a few months ago, these 2 holdings will make a lot of money over 2-3 years.

Just my views but have been hugely successful already...and dont write-off the $ too!

Hey, URE is my absolute favourite and very predictable if you watch SPG and a couple of reits.
I expect you bought around 3 (currently 6).
That share and its buddy UYG just bought me a car.

Word of warning these shares can be volatile, I lost a lot on XPP (China 2x)

edit. to remove amount annd replace with "a lot"
