My OH has just checked her paypal account as she seemed to be too skint too early in the month. Someone has used her account to purchase a phone at a cost of $420 (£260ish).

What can she do to get her money back quickly? I've told her to get in touch with her bank manager as payments need to come out for bills etc, also to get in touch with paypal and close the account. Anything else she can do?

From my experience mate, I'm afraid there isn't much you can do with Paypal. Open a dispute and eventually they'll usually sort it out. I know it's not what you want to hear, but they always seem to screw me over.

Hopefully someone else has something more positive to add.

Open a dispute. They usually fall in the buyers favour no matter what. That's what I have found as a seller, I'm always the one that's penalised. She should get the money back but I wouldn't hold your breath for getting it back any time soon I'm afraid.

How do you pay the Paypal bills - credit card? If so, you have consumer protection - get in touch with your credit card company. Should get all of it back quickly.

Firebomb Paypal? Bunch of crooked thieves, the sooner they are shut down the better IMO.

I think you've do e the right thing already. Open a dispute and let Paypal sort it out (shamefully slowly no doubt) and speak to the bank, if they've been a good customer they'll probably offer/increase an OD to weather the storm.

It's nuts what they let happen, easily resellable consumer item delivered to another address, usually abroad, yeah no probs.

Bloody Paypal, I've learnt recently that behind the vanier of security they're pretty lax on everything, except taking 3% of bloody everything.
