I've heard of them (private lenders) but not sure what they are or where to find them, they don't mean loansharks do they ?

The thing is i've been refused a small loan by my bank and tried a few of those known loan companies and they all said no.

I've got a good income and apart from £ 900, on my creditcard no other debts, no missed payments whatsoever so i don't know what the problem is confused

Signed up for the Experian Credit Report thing online and that all shows satisfactory.

Read on here about the Zopa so tried that, but even that failed. Does it really mater that much if you've only been at your current adress for about a year and with your current bank for just over a year ?

And what other options are there out there ?

It depends how poor or non-existent your credit is.

If you want a small loan then outside banks and credit cards you are into sub-prime territory.

http://www.lenderscompared.org.uk gives a list of doorstep lenders. Expensive, but if you can pay it off very quickly then some arent too bad.

ignore the APR's as short term are horrendous. TCC is a better comparison.

Cheers.

Are you saying non-existent or not much credit history equals bad history as well then ?

Haven't got bad history at all, but only a total of 2 years and 11 months of credit history in total as that's how long i've been in the UK.

Will have a look at that website, but what does TCC stand for ?

Are you on the voters role? If not then that'll probably be your problem if everything else is clear.

Sometimes no credit history can be as difficult as bad credit history.

TCC = Total Cost of Credit. ie what you pay if you run the full contract term.

Just a thought. If you are paying your salary direct into an account and then ask your bank for an overdraft. Thats only if you havent incurred fees or gone into unauthorised overdraft.

What's your past address history like? You said you've been at your address and bank for a year but what about before then? Any lender will want 3 years address history but a years banking history should be fine. If you have £900 on a card then you have a credit history so that shouldn't be the issue. Also, have you ever drifted into an unauthorised overdraft, even by a tiny margin?

Finally, any customer adviser / personal banker etc etc etc should be able to appeal your loan decline if your report is as clear as you say it is so it may be worth challenging them and specifically saying that you have your experian / equifax report.
