We recently took advantage of a credit card companies offer of a 10month 0% card as we were about to but the wife a new car and rather than use our saving we thought we would use the 0% facility on the card to fund the balance.

Anyway, we are paying £500 a month off & on our last statement we noticed that there had need refunds to the value of over £400, all made at the same store in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol.

We called the credit card compant to highlight this & all we got was "you must have made the transactions" which frankly is unlikely as we chopped the card up once we paid for the car.

How can one find out what's going on, the card suppiers are useless.

Friends of mine had a fair amount of money appear on their bankcard a few years ago. It was a cash payment and the bank was not interested when they made enquiries.
The bank said they would only check things out if there was a complaint of a missing payment.
They eventually used the money for a holiday and haven't heard anything since.

Doesn't that count as theft if the bank ever get round to checking it out?

it sounds like what will have happened is the shop will have taken payment for goods on a customers card, then done a mailorder (typed (rather than swiped) into a pdq machine) 'customer not present' refund but made the error of typing the wrong card number in.

once the money is credited to the wrong card it can not be recharged as the shop wont have the three digit code off the back of the card (you need it for charges, but not for refunds)

ive done this before - oppps!

Only if you don't pay it back.

They kept trying to pay it back but as there were no complaints of a missing payment the bank didn't want to know.
