Payment after house completion
Discussion
OK need some advice. SiL has got divorced and as part of it sold the marital home.
Completion was last Thursday 27th. She still hasn't seen the outstanding funds.Around £140K for her share. The solicitors have sent final accounts etc.
They are giving her the runaround with phrases like "Checks are being made on your bank account" The main solicitor won't talk to her and some minion does know anything?

I had this with my divorce. Still legally married at the time of sale, we (stupidly with hindsight) used the same solicitor to handle the sale that was handling my ex-wife's side of the divorce. I thought we had an agreement on how the capital should be distributed, especially as the family debts the house sale were supposed to clear were in my name only, but surprise surprise that was not his interpretation nor implementation. Snakes with Tits indeed.
I would make sure your SIL is entitled to the money with a formal Financial Order, and play hard ball until then.
