Non standard domestic buildings insurance
Discussion
The insurance for the property that I and another freeholder co-own is due for renewal in July and each time we do it poses some challenges leading to very few quotes forthcoming. I'm asking for any advice on how I can improve this situation to avoid over paying the premium whilst ensuring sufficient cover.
The building is an early 1900's terraced town house over three stories and divided into two flats (I live in the ground floor flat, my neighbour the 1st/2nd floor maisonette). We are both directors of a Ltd company that owns the entire freehold and each flat is on a leasehold of 325 years from this company. I live in my flat permanently however my neighbour lives in Wiltshire (primary residence) and uses his flat as a bolt hole visiting probably once a month. As such the insurers treat his flat as a holiday home.
I'd be interested if anyone can point us towards an insurer with an apettite for this type of business, we've been with AJ Gallagher for circa 5 years which delivers automatic annual premium uplifts...
Thanks in advance.
