I'd like to try out a new brokerage/ISA platform when the new tax year rolls around. Looking for a no-nonsense execution-only platform (as a powerfully-built company director, I am natch an investment god matched only by Warren Buffet, and have forgotten more than any chavtastic estate agent reject "investment advisor" could ever hope to teach me) that I can use for more than just an S&S ISA, so access to a broad range of stuff, with support for EUR and USD would be ideal.

Any recommendations?

what does 'no-nonsense' mean?

for someone to recommend a 'new' platform you would need to state who your current one is, and why you need another one. you would also need to state what type of shares / funds etc you wish to invest in, and also how much. more info required

Subscribe to Investors' Chronicle and look at some of the previous articles, ie Sept'23 headed 'Platforms for Regular Investing'. This, in particular, gives a good overview.

Surely one has one's broker on speed dial, such that you simply reach across your vast mahogany desk, press a button and say 'Buy Oil!', then return to stroking your fluffy white cat?

I use https://www.iweb-sharedealing.co.uk/ for stock (it is natwest) and https://www.fidelity.co.uk/ for my ISA.
Very happy with both.

I use interactive investor. Their fx costs aren’t great, but platform costs v low.

Another vote for IWeb if you want a straightforward platform for shares and ISAs without any frills. There's no annual charge, and the dealing costs are very reasonable.

I think you mean Lloyds. Matters for the per banking license £85,000 FSCS limit. I use them, but not for anything involving fx, which I vaguely recall they aren't cheap for. Otherwise very happy with them.

You are right. Halifax own iweb and they are part of Lloyds.

ii - fixed £fee per month. App is very good. Research is useful. Can buy US$ shares too.
Fidelity - App is ok. Fees %based , so better for smaller portfolio.

If you want a thing done well, do it yourself. Unless it’s a “Blue Horseshoe loves Anacott Steel”-type of situation.

Also, white cats shed their fking fur everywhere, including all over one’s pristine pinstripe suit.

I took a look at that article but it’s focused on regular investing (i.e. putting a few hundred quid in each month), which is not how I do things. Thanks for pointing me at that website, though! thumbup

True. A wise man will choose a suit that matches his cat. Currently I'm wearing a rather fetching silver tabby suit.

There's an amusing postscript to this. I finally got around to opening up an IWeb account last week.

On Friday, I transferred in £25k by bank transfer (which means they have to manually credit my IWeb account with the money when it arrives in their account).

I logged in today to find £159,900 in my trading account. biggrin
