Pension post bereavement
Discussion
Hope someone can advise please.
A relative was widowed 10+ years ago and is now a pensioner. They receive state pension which was enhanced I guess by the spouses contributions. They also get a couple of small company pensions.
Their new partner recently passed away (not married). The deceased pension provider has indicated that that pension can be paid to her when probate goes through.
Will taking that pension compromise / reduce the enhanced state pension?
Sorry if a bit vague, I don't have full info yet...

Jim,
Sorry to hear about the loss. I assume that your relative's second partner has died, and that your relative was previously appointed as the nominated personal pension beneficiary by that second partner. Without knowing the full details, in such an instance, no, their right to a previously accrued state pension shouldn't be affected. They *may* also be entitled to a bereavement payment.
