hi people

im travelling to cape town soon to collect an engagement ring.

I will be able to claim the VAT back before I travel back to the UK

the amount will be put onto a pre paid credit card in cape town by customs.

the question is how do I then get the cash out the card once im back in the UK??

can I withdraw the cash at cash points? or transfere money into my account??

any help will be appreciated

thanks in advance

This. Why do you have to use a customs supplied pre-paid card? That smells suspicious.

You can use any 'normal' method of payment then fill in the VAT/Sales tax reclaim form at the airport.

"Normal" method. Well you either get a cheque or a pre paid credit card now a days. Also THEY decided not me. I'll be claiming over 1000 GBP back so it will be on a pre paid credit card I'm told.

IF a cheque was given then I can cash it in the airport or anywhere in the world.

The question is IF it is put on a pre paid credit card how do I withdraw the cash?? Do they give you a PIN number??
Thanks again

Why do you need cash? Why try to draw out £1,000 in cash and then (presumably) buy your groceries and petrol with it, when you can just buy your petrol and groceries with the credit card.

Or am I missing something?

I put my flights and accommodation on my credit card so thought the VAT back can clear that bill

Seems the intelligent thing to do
