Hi all,

Need to transfer £11k on Friday but wondered whether it will go direct if I don't do chaps (standard online transfer)?

Is it treated the same as £100 payment for example? I just don't have the comfort of it not going through on Friday. Is it worth doing chaps to be certain?

thanks in advance

Potentially. Could you not split the transfer over two days to be sure?

I've done it sucessfully.

Used to be a £10K limit but can only imaging it's been removed or raised.

Depends on if you are sending it to an account that accepts faster payments and also what your faster payment limit is(normally £10k)

I used to send all my payments above £10k by chaps but now HSBC have raised my faster payment limit to £100k(daily limit)

I still have a chaps facility on my account and when done online the charge is £6.You don't say whether you have business banking or personal but if you have business then it may be worth sending by chaps just to be sure if the charge is only £6.

The limit is per account, not account holder. I have 2 savings and 1 current with HSBC and so use them to move £30k per day.

I had this rubbish when I bought my last house, all solved with a call to them.

Interesting this has just come up.

I'll have a 6 figure sum to transfer next week (house sale) and wondered if there was any limit to transfer abroad.

Probably best I call them and find out.

Spoke with them yesterday. Online limit is 10k for payments abroad and their rates and conversion was rubbish.

Going to use a fx house instead. Will save a tidy sum.

Max limit was £10,000 so just split it in half for ease and both went through OK.

Thanks for your help, if I was to go into the branch they would have charged £30 chaps

Getting really fked off!

Without visiting my HSBC branch - 4,500 miles away - I have to jump through a daft amount of hoops to be able to transfer more than £10k of my own money anywhere, including the UK, let alone abroad.

I'd opened accounts with two FX houses so I can jump on the best rate... but now I can't jump anywhere and it's already cost me thousands.

Really not a happy fking bunny.

So... we've worked out the only way to get this sorted is for me to fly back to the UK for a day, go to the branch then fly back again.

Amazing.
