Hi all,

I recently applied for a credit card with a well known bank over the telephone. They told me over the phone I had been accepted and the necessary paperwork would be sent out in the next few days for me to sign.

I waited a few weeks and nothing turned up, so I called the bank back. They said that they would resend the documents. I then waited a further 2 weeks and again nothing showed up. I called the bank back for the third time to be told they have no application on record from me.

My concerns are now that the bank has credit scored me and I have nothing to show for it. Is there anyway I can find out what has actually happened here, I.E can I ask the bank if they a record of a credit check against my name? Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Confused

Gain access to your credit report, that will tell you if you were credit scored or not.................

Do they still hide this facility away on page 1000 or so of their website, in a dark little corner? wink

I use annualcreditreport.co.uk to check on my credit profile every now and then, think I pay about £3 per month for it.

It will show you recent searches on your credit profile, not sure how long it takes for them to appear though, may not be instant.

Possibly not the best option financially speaking if you only want to check as a one off.

FWIW - I've just had a play with the Credit Report Checker at www.noddle.co.uk (no connection to it, just resent paying for access to my own data).

It seems to be pretty accurate and free!

What's their angle with this service? How are they making money out of it? Can I expect blizzards of marketing e-mails and other junk mail if I sign-up?

No idea (assuming you're talking about noddle) - they seem to have a proper opt-out in place, and I haven't been spammed yet. I guess they're hoping that the personalised offers are enough to keep people coming back and earning them some commission.
