confusing financial situation
Discussion
Hi All
I'm wondering if anyone could help me by providing a little advice about a strange situation I find myself in at the moment.
I bank with Santander, and have a credit card with Barclaycard. On Monday, out of the blue, I recieved a text message from Barclaycard saying that the direct debit from my Santander accound had not been paid, resulting in a late payment. I telephoned Barclays, and paid the amount. When I asked what had happened they said that payment had been sent, and then requested back again by Santander. This was odd, as I had sufficient funds in my account, so I contacted Santander who confirmed that this was indeed the case and also denied that they had requested any money back as, they claim, Barclaycard never actually requested the money! I have spoken to both sides, and both are adament that the other side is to blame. I have asked Santander to look into this on a higher level than the call center bods, which they have agreed to do. Should this come back saying it definately wasn't their fault what should my next step be?
Would it be worth my while speaking to the financial ombudsman? Is that even who I would need to speak to?! Any advice on this would be very greatfully recieved!

If it's a DD then Santander don't have to do a lot. The request is initiated by Barclays via AUDDIS via BACS. My guess would be that they've put your Santander account details in wrong somewhere (although given it's a regular payment I'm not sure how that could have happened).
Barclays need to confirm the AUDDIS information was submitted and correct. Fairly easy to do. If they can't they need to reimburse your penalty charge. If they don't then next step would be FOS. I don't think you can go to FOS without trying the bank's complaints procedure first.
