Just after Christmas I paid £3500 worth of cheques into my account via the post office. To date none have been paid in.
Turns out the cheques have been paid into a account with a different account number and sort code despite me putting the correct numbers on the back of each cheque.
How can this happen?

Don't know how this can happen, but have you got the funds paid into your account yet? My experience is that before the banks will do this they require the person in whose account the money is to sign a formal dewclaration so that the bank can get the money out and into your account. Good luck!

No only found out today after one of the people who wrote me a cheque went to there bank to query it.
There bank has provided copies of the cheque showing clearly my account number, but also another account number, sort code which is printed on the back.
I'll be visiting my bank tomorrow.
