Just sold our house, and new place won't be complete for 6 months or so. Will therefore have a few hundred k in the bank for a few months.

Is there any point trying to get a decent return on this, or should I just use a regular deposit account which might net me 2% pa? Obviously can't look at anything risky.

Cheers.

Hi, in all honesty I would probably go upto £85k per financial institution in an instant access savings acc earning 2%ish. Esp as you don't know exactely when your gonna need the money.

Good luck

Put it in a fixed term bond, 90 days. Get a better return, and then just keep 10k in your account in case smile

p.s. None of the major banks will be going bankrupt in the next 6 months, of course this is just judgement but they are still very heavily underwritten by the gov, so it just won't happen smile Unless you listen to the financial apocalyptic types

But what if it's a large'ish amount like a bar. Spread it over 10+ different accounts? Surely any of the big four/five banks will suffice.

Not quite that much but ballpark. Can't find any 90 day FTB's, any suggestions anyone?

Could do without the hassle of spreading it around.

Virgin (ex-Northern Rock) have a good instant access account but it's limited to 100k per issue .. well every bit helps.

I had the same issue last year (same sort of timeframe).

In the end I couldn't be bothered with the admin and just left it in my HSBC account.

You may as well put 30k in premium bonds, they pay out quickly when you need the money and you may win big.

Fill your duvet with it, its cold at the moment and you don't want to trust those bankers.
