Cashback sites

Does anyone here use Quidco, Topcashback or something similar?
A conversation in the office revealed that one of my team claims to have saved £500+ over the past year in cashback...!
The sceptic in me says this must just be some form of advertising / referral deal type thing and you have to spend the cashback on some dubious package holiday. There seems to be a distinct lack of info on the sites...
As an internet shopper by habit, is it worth my time?

I have used them in the past. It is above board. The refer you to the site, you make a purchase they pay the cashback site a fee for the referral and they pass that on to you. I think they charge a small annual fee of about £5 or so but you can easily make that back. I got £40 just for swapping my gas/elect supplier and I got £50 _ £50 M + S Vouchers for upgrading my Sky to HD to watch the F1
ETA - You can draw the money straight out into your bank and spend on what you like. Only downside is you have to wait a while to get the cash

Quidco is Ace.
I have received just over £600 over a couple of years.
Always buy insurance, mobile phones, finance etc through there as they offer the best rates.
New customers can get over £250 if they sign up to the Sky full package. Really good site IMO.
No catches either, once a period of time has lapsed, it gets put into your bank. I have even set it up so that whenever I spend on my debit card in participating stores (i.e. Halfords) it automatically calculates and pays me the cashback

I use Quidco and have accumalated about £120 in around 7 months. So it is definately worth while.
If you use the internet for purchases a lot then it is definately worth while. If your work colleague has been buying a lot of large appliances for example then he could probably have arrued £500.
Sky TV made up a large chunk of my money, Ive just bought a house and had I used Quidco to buy loads of the furnishings and White Goods then i'd probably have a few hundred more. But I already had most of the stuff so didnt top it up to much.
Don't buy something just because you get top cash back though, still shop around as the cash back offer can be there to tempt you when the item could be bought cheaper elsewhere (even if you include the cash back discount)

Now that is neat!
Thanks for the replies... sounds like it's worth setting one up then.
Can you set up one account but have two users - e.g. me and the missus so it goes into one pot?
I made £500 in a year on quidco. I use it to buy anything from any website, car/home insurance etc. I got £80 for changing energy supplier and you can get £100 for changing banks through quidco. Gambling sites are good through quidco. Deposit £10 and get £15 cashback plus you've got the chance of winning with your £10 too. Takes a while to get the cashback from some of the companies but well worth it over the year.
I've been using Quidco for years - the "big payers" are few and far between (i.e. £50 for buying insurance etc), and it can take a while to come through, but so far I've earnt £490. Last year I earnt £86.87.
For example, I bought a stereo on eBay (£70) and got £2.05 cashback, I bought a USB stick from MyMemory - £0.61, bought a laptop (£1k) and got £32.90 cashback. Every little helps - last got paid £18.72 in October straight into my bank.
Really nice thing is that you can add your cards to Quidco so that when you make a purchase in-store in a qualifying retailer you automatically get cashback without having to do anything - I bought a tyre inflator in Halfords for £30, and automatically got £1.13 cashback. Bought a drink in Cineworld and got £0.13 etc.
I would never buy something JUST because of cashback, but it's a nice little bonus on top.

im at nearly £1000 over a few years , no catches to it just be sure that you have cleared your cookies and you buy directly from thier link
You don't need to clear your cookies - clicking through their link will overwrite any previous one. You just need to make sure to go through the proper cash back link.Hotels are a good earner for me on quidco, normally around 10% to 12% cashback which equates from £8-10 a night. I stay away for work a lot at their expense so for me it's a little earner. Also Hotels.com normally give the best or near best rate, and for every 10th night you get one night free...

I agree that Quidco works well - what irks me is that I presume the vendors are adding the extra percentages on to the retail price to cover for the eventuality of someone using cashback?
In the same way companies pay to advertise to entice new customers, companies also pay affiliates commission for referring new customers & the orders they place - this can be very big business. For example MoneySavingExpert.com is full of supported links - they recommend you a product, you click the link and purchase it and they get some £. The company gets an order and makes enough profit to cover the cashback and make some £ for themselves so they are happy.
Quidco works in exactly the same way - they just give you all the cashback (but take £5 a year for themselves which is fair enough).
I use Quidco, have done for over 5 years now. I've earned about £1k on cashback. It's always worth adding the cashback into any calculations you make when choosing a product. Insurance is usually a good payer - I picked up classic car insurance recently for £110, and got £25 cashback through quidco.
It can take a while for the cashback to process, so you have to be patient. I find that purchases regularly do not track, but raising a claim nearly always solves the problems.

You could both just use the same account, but you'd be better off setting one up in your name and then using the referral link to set up one in your missus name. That way you'll get a £10 referral bonus when she reaches a certain amount of cashback (on TCB at least, I'm sure Quidco do the same). Thanks for the replies... sounds like it's worth setting one up then.
